This is a very serious topic to be talking about on a makeup blog!! I have never thought about ending my own life, however I have known people that did take their own lives. It is truly tragic to think that they had no where to turn and no one to talk to. I know if something terrible happened to me, that my friends and family (and hopefully all the lovely folks on twitter) would be there to talk/vent to.

Your views on religion

Like most of the population of Ireland, I am a Catholic (although my weekly attendance has dwindled significantly in recent years). I am 100% tolerant to other religions - some of my friends are Buddhists and Muslims, and my some ex-boyfriends have been Protestants/Atheists. I believe that everyone has the right to practice their religion wherever they wish. However, I don't feel that religion plays a big role in society today, not that that is a bad thing!!

Your view on drugs and alcohol

When it comes to drugs and alcohol, I believe to each their own. Personally, I have never done drugs and I never will. I don't see the appeal, and there are far too many dangers and downsides. However, I do drink alcohol, normally at the weekends, with my friends or family. I am particularly partial to red wine with dinner, and I tend to drink wine, rum or cider on a night out. I'm not a big drinker though, as I don't enjoy the after effects!!

Where you'd like to be in 10 years

I am just finishing up a masters in accounting and I will be starting my new job, as an auditor with KPMG, in September. I hope to have qualified as a chartered accountant and tax consultant within the next few years. Then I hope to continue working as an accountant or tax consultant, spending a year or two working abroad, preferably in New York. Eventually, I would like to open my own practice.

I would like to do a diploma course in interior design at some stage. I have always been interested in decoration and design, and would love to study the field, although I have no plans to change careers.

I would also like to be married with children, and own my own house. I want to have lots of children so I'll have to start within the next 10 years!!

I am currently single, having split with my on-off boyfriend of 3 and a half years last summer. I enjoy being single, as I can do whatever I want, whenever I want. I enjoy the freedom that comes with not being tied down... and I get to see my friends and family a LOT more often. While I like being in a relationship, I am happy being on my own at the moment.

Review: Sally Hansen Gel Cuticle Remover

I've recently been having a lot of trouble with my cuticles - they seem to be growing more than usual, and I'm reluctant to snip at them, so I picked up a tube of this cuticle remover from Sally Hansen.

This product is used for step 2 in the Sally Hansen perfect manicure:

Step 1: Shape nails

Step 2: Cuticle care

Step 3: Strengthen and grow

Step 4: Colour and care

Step 5: Protect and shine

This gel claims to "quickly remove excess cuticles" by loosening them, and it contains jojoba extract, kiwi extract and wheat protein to moisturise and deeply condition your cuticles.

Directions for Use

1. Apply a thin strip of gel around the cuticle (see above right)

2. Leave for 1-2 mins (wait longer if needed, but no longer than 10 mins)

3. With flat end of pusher tip, gently loosen and push back cuticle

4. Wash away with soapy water

I applied the product for 4-5 minutes, as I wanted to see a dramatic result!! My cuticles are significantly reduced, following this treatment, and my entire nail feels more moisturised and conditioned. The smell is strong, so I would recommend using this in a well ventilated space. I won't be using this every day, as I think that would be too intense. But I will definitely use it every week or two, to give my nails a treat.

My latest nail polish purchase is the beautiful coral red colour from Barry M.

I usually wear two coats of this polish, but one coat can work too, if you apply it generously. It applies beautifully and dries quickly though, so applying two coats isn't a chore. I adore wearing this during the summer - it looks great when paired with a beautiful tan!!

NOTD: Miss Minty with Barry M Nail Effects

Gosh's Miss Minty is a firm favourite polish of mine, I seem to love anything mint green lately. However, I have recently been pairing it with Barry M's Nail Effects in black. I love how these polishes look together, and people keep asking whether I got my nails done professionally!!

The directions are as follows:

1. Paint your nails in your chosen colour, and allow the polish to dry completely. I chose Miss Minty for my base colour.

2. Apply a single coat of Barry M's Nail Effects all over the nail (as you would with any other nail polish).

3. Allow the polish to dry completely... it will crackle and break as it dries!!

And there you have it... salon finish nails in an instant!!

Outfit #1

Leighton has paired this beautiful polka dot dress with a sloughy grey cardigan, grey booties and a tan waist belt. Keeping her hair off her face, and wearing minimal makeup, ensures that focus is not taken off her beautiful dress. I absolutely love this outfit.

Leighton looks cute and stylish in this cream mini-dress, which she has paired with a waist belt, sandals and sunglasses.

Outfit #3

I think Leighton looks stunning here. Pairing a gorgeous waistcoat with a tank-top and jeans is a classic move, but one that Leighton really works, adding her signature sunglasses to complete the look.

Outfit #4

Leighton looks adorable here, pictured with her puppy. She has cracked out another pair of gorgeous sunglasses, and paired them with some washed out jeans, a grey t-shirt and a tan cardigan. Her hair finishes off the outfit, with cute little plaits keeping it off her face.

Casual Curls

This morning I decided to do something a little different with my hair.... so I whipped out my John Frieda Luxurious Volume Blow Dry Lotion, to give my roots a little boost, my Remington Spin Curl Dryer, to create gorgeous curls and waves, and my L'Oréal Elnett Supreme Hold Hairspray, and voilà...

I absolutely love curly hair (naturally mine is wavy and limp) but I've always found it too time consuming to use a curling iron or ghd. This look is so easy to create and quick too - it took me 10/15 minutes to go from wet to finished.

What do you think? Will you be rocking curls this Spring/Summer?

Review: Me Me Me - Blush Me (Rouge)

Although I absolutely adore Benefit's gorgeous range of blushes, the steep price leaves a lot to be desired.

Enter Me Me Me...

While perusing Superdrug recently, I came across Me Me Me's blush boxes. These products were clearly "inspired" (ahem, blatant rip off, more like) by Benfit's Coralista, so I've decided to compare the two, while reviewing Rouge.

1. Price

Coralista: €33.50

Rouge: €10 (roughly)

Rouge is much more "pocket friendly" than Coralista, for roughly the same amount of product. Coralista doesn't have any weight on the box but Rouge is the larger of the two, if anything.

2. Colour

Coralista: Coral, with Gold Shimmer

Rouge: Coral, with Gold and Pink Shimmer

These products both leave a beautiful coral glow on the cheeks, with subtle shimmery undertones.

3. Brush

Coralista: High Quality, Wood

Rouge: Moderate Quality, Plastic

I much prefer the brush that comes with Coralista - the bristles are much softer and it feels much more "high end". Also, the powder seems to cling better to the Coralista brush. However, I use my Mac 129 to apply both products, so the brush isn't overly important!!

4. Pigmentation

Coralista: Moderate

Rouge: Good

Unfortunately, the lighting in my room isn't great today, so the swatches are a bit of a failure. However, you can see that Rough (on the right) is much more pigmented than Coralista (on the left).

In this little comparison, Rouge is the winner, trumping Coralista in almost every category. All in all, Rouge is probably one of the best blushes I've ever used. Also, Rouge has a cute little mirror inside the lid, meaning that you can re-apply this product during the day!

Unfortunately, the Superdrug I went to was out of the other shades: Bronze, Coral and Pink. I definitely want to try out Bronze and Pink, but I'll probably give Coral a miss, because Rouge is sufficiently coral for me!!

It's no secret that Rihanna is a bit of a "hair chameleon" and has been rocking a variety of styles and shades of red in recent months.

Following a blog post, a brave leap, and some words of encouragement by the beautiful Milly, I have been toying around with the idea of dying my tresses rouge.

I don't see myself going as bright or as bold a shade as Rihanna, but the idea excites me... however, I am a bit concerned that, with my pale skin, I will look slightly bizzare.

What are your thoughts? Do I dare to dye?

Review: Mac Prep & Prime for Lips

Over Christmas, I was suffering badly from uber-chapped lips, due to a combination of cold weather, wind and illness. I decided I had to do something about it, so I picked up some of Prep + Prime lip primer by Mac.

Application:

I apply a generous amount of this product, directly to my lips, at the beginning of my "morning makeup routine" - waiting five minutes or so, to allow it to properly sink in before applying any other lip product.

This product incredibly easy to work with, and incredibly effective:

☆ it moisturises lips, leaving them soft and smooth

☆ it fills in the gaps and cracks in your lips

☆ it prevents feathering and bleeding of the lipstick

Overall, though it is on the pricey side, I really like this product and would see myself repurchasing it. Have you tried this product, and if so, did you like it? Also, if you have any recommendations for cheaper alternatives, I would love to hear them...

Lippie Love #3: Lovelorn

Another favourite lippie of mine is the gorgeous Lovelorn by Mac.

Although the lustre lipstick looks very vibrant in the tube, it is incredibly wearable and versatile. It can be worn during the day, with neutral eye makeup, for a fresh, bright look... especially during Spring and Summer. It would also be perfect for a night out, with voluminous lashes and a smokey eye.

This gorgeous lipstick is also very moisturising and gives a beautiful glossy finish, meaning that you don't need a gloss over it.

Urgently Seeking Upstyle...

On March 3rd I'm heading to a black-tie ball and I have everything picked out: the dress, the shoes, the bag, the jewels, the makeup........ but, I'm undecided on the hairstyle. This is where you come in!!

My gorgeous gown is deep red, floor length and pretty simple from the front. The WOW factor is the back, beautifully made from lace with delicate buttons down the spine. I obviously want to show the intricate detailing off so I'm thinking that an upstyle would be the best option.

I was casually browsing Google for inspiration and I came across this beautiful inspired upstyle.

This beautiful, simple look was inspired by the stunning Taylor Swift. I've booked myself in to get my hair done and they've told me that they can do almost anything I want.

Review: Lovea Argan Healing Butter

Long time, no blog!

I know I haven't blogged in about a decade, but I've been really under the weather - I spent most of the month of January in bed with the flu (I have asthma so the flu really knocks me sideways).

I really didn't feel like pampering myself while I was sick, so I am very behind on my reviews. However, I've been feeling a bit better for the past fortnight and have been diligently testing out the products I received recently from MyPure - the first of these is Lovea's Healing Butter.

This product, made with Argan oil, is absolutely wonderful on dry skin. I suffer badly from dry skin on my feet and am constantly on the lookout for a product to rectify this problem. Several nights a week, I cover my feet with vaseline and wear cotton socks to bed. However, this remedy leaves your feet slippery and greasy so it's not a feasible daytime solution.

According to the container, this butter soothes and intensely nourishes dry skin, providing an immediate feeling of comfort. It repairs damaged skin, helping it to regain its softness.

I have found my saviour in this product. It moisturises, without leaving residue. Though I still use my vaseline trick at night, I find myself reaching for this product every morning. Though I won't run out of this any time soon (a little goes a long way), I can state with confidence that I will definitely be repurchasing!

Review: Maybelline The Falsies Mascara

I have been trying out Maybelline The Falsies mascara for the past few weeks..... and I absolutely adore it!! In fact, I'm beginning to think that this will be my new Holy Grail mascara.

The brush is curved, so it adds extra curl to your lashes, while thickening and lengthening. I was a bit anxious that it would give your lashes an extreme "false lash effect" which can be a bit too much during the day, but it adds the perfect about of volume and length.

Unlike other Maybelline mascara, this product doesn't have an overwhelmingly strong chemical stench. However, I believe there is a waterproof version of this which I would like to try out because this product runs when wet!

I will definitely be repurchasing this product - despite the waterproofing issues, it is flawless and really makes your lashes stand out..

Review: Seche Vite Top Coat

I recently picked up a bottle of Seche Vite "Dry Fast" Top Coat and I absolutely love it.

The packaging directs that you need to apply the product "thickly.... then set softly down" onto your nails. This is very important - if you don't apply the product liberally, it could cause your nail polish to streak.

If you follow these directions, the product applies easily. Seche Vite dries your nail polish at the speed of light and prevents chipping for several days. It gives your nails a gorgeous glossy finish too.

There is one large downside to this product: the overwhelming stench. I would definitely recommend using this in an extremely well ventilated space.

According to reliable sources (ie: my friend) this product goes gloopy after a few months so it has to be used relatively quickly/regularly, and although it is a bit pricey, I definitely think it is well worth it and will, most certainly, repurchase this product when I run out.

NOTD: Clay-ton, My Hero

Recently I popped into my local chemist and noticed a range of makeup and nail polish by a brand I had never heard of - Catrice Cosmetics. I picked up a couple of colours, including this one: Clay-ton, My Hero...

I absolutely love this colour, a shimmery pale brown colour with gold flecs. It looks really pretty and applies really easily. The consistency is perfect and the colour really intensifies with two coats.

I absolutely love these nail polishes, and I'm delighted I found this brand, as it only cost around €3 per bottle.

Review: Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation

Towards the end of November I ran out of my Holy Grail foundation (Benefit's Play Stick in Spin the Bottle) and decided to try something new (and cheaper) for a change...

I wandered into Boots and perused the displays for about 20 minutes (I am incredibly indecisive) until I approached the Maybelline stand. I religiously used the Dream Matte Mousse when I was younger, and absolutely loved it so I decided to retry it.... but unfortunately it was sold out in my colour!!

Then I spotted the Dream Satin Liquid foundation so I decided to give it a try, and I have absolutely fallen in love.

I applied this foundation using my 187 stippling brush, and it goes on easily and evenly. Unlike other Maybelline foundations I have used in the past, it doesn't cling to dry patches on the skin. The foundation dries within seconds, leaving a matte finish, an essential for someone with oily skin like mine. The product provides medium coverage, which can be built up to give fuller coverage if needed, without looking cakey.

I usually pair this foundation with my Mac Studio Fix powder as a top coat, because it adds to the mattified look (which I strive for). When paired together, my foundation stays firmly in place all day, even despite my oily skin. I absolutely adore this foundation, and have completely switched up my routine to include this and I haven't repurchased my Benefit foundation since first using this product.

Though there are downsides to this product (such as the small colour range, featuring only eight colours: nude, ivory, fawn, sand, cameo, sun beige, light porcelain and cocoa), the positives seriously outweigh them and I would definitely recommend trying this product, if you haven't already.

Review: Soap & Glory - Knock Your Spots Off

This month I have been suffering badly with spotty skin. I tried using a couple of different products but nothing seemed to help. I wandered into Boots, browsing in search of something to help, when I noticed this...... Soap & Glory's Knock Your Spots Off Gel. This product is aimed a the lads, offering to minimise spots and "beard bumps" but I was desperate and it was €10 cheaper than the ladies alternative!!

I applied this product quite liberally over the affected areas before going to bed. As it turned out, this was a wise decision as the scent is quite strong. This product did zap the redness out of my spots, and the following morning they were noticeably smaller. However, I feel like it dried my skin out a bit too much.

I would suggest using this product sparingly, and only in drastic circumstances. I shan't be repurchasing this product, but I would definitely consider using it in the event of another outbreak!!

Review: Essence Multi Action Mascara

Last month I came home for the weekend without any mascara so I quickly popped into the chemist to purchase a cheap-o replacement ahead of a night out.... I grabbed the first one I saw, and walked away with Essence's Multi Action Mascara.

Though I had never used this mascara, or anything else by Essence, my friend is a big fan so I decided to take a leap of faith..... and wow, am I glad I did!? This mascara is ridiculously cheap (I think it was around €2) and does a fantastic job. It applies nicely, and both thickens and lengthens without clumping. It has gone a little downhill with use/abuse but for €2, I really can't fault it. The smell is a little "chemically" but it's nothing that you can't grin and bear for the low price :)

Though I won't be making a permanent switch to this product, I will continue to use it and if I was ever in need of a quick fix, I definitely see myself repurchasing this bad boy!!

Review: A'kin Orange Blossom Body Wash

I'm a bit behind with the MyPure reviews this month, but the second product I was testing out in December was also by A'kin - I selected their Orange Blossom Body Wash, having really liked all their other products.

The very first thing I noticed about this product was the scent. I found the strong scent overwhelming and almost a bit sickening. After I got over the initial shock, I did notice that it is very floral scented, with an almost spicy quality to it. The MyPure website describes it as a "fresh delicate, sweet essence of orange blossoms" which supposedly brightens the spirit and calms the skin.

The actual product is clear and has a liquid consistency, however a little goes a very long way, forming a wonderful lather, and the product should last for a considerable amount of time.

You can read a bit more about this product over on the MyPure website. Personally, I won't be repurchasing this product, the smell has really put me off but I would consider trying it out in a different fragrance, because the product itself works nicely.

New Years Resolutions

Can you believe it's 2011 already? I know it sounds cliché but the past year really flew past in a blur. This week is extra special for me because on Wednesday my blog is 1 year old!! I cannot believe I've been doing this for 12 months - and what an amazing 12 months it has been, getting to know all you beautiful ladies and sharing my thoughts with you.

I wanted to jump on the youtube bandwagon and share my new years resolutions with you guys (you never know, this might help me stick with them)

1. Be Healthy

Year in, year out, losing weight is on my list of resolutions but this year I want to be more than "skinny" - I want to be healthy and fit. Having spent the past two weeks cooped up in bed with a bad dose of the flu and a chest infection, I am eager to get active!

2. Procrastinate Less

I have an uncanny ability to put off tasks until the very last minute.... but I don't handle stress very well, so this year I want to try and keep up with work and not waste time.

3. Relax More

This past semester was HECTIC and I completely burnt out afterwards (I think that might have been one of the factors that contributed to my flu, haha) - this year/semester I want to make more time for relaxing and having fun.

4. Blog More

I will blog more frequently this year - I have been neglectful for the past few months, what with exams and illness, but that's gonna change this year.

Review: A'kin Instant Radiance Facial Masque

Having tried out a multitude of A'kin products in the past few months, I felt confident ordering their Multi-Fruit and Willow Bark Instant Radiance Facial Masque.

Directions for Use:

After cleansing and drying the skin, smooth a generous layer of this masque onto your face and décolletage, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

I love, love, love face masks - I find them so relaxing and rejuvenating. I love nothing more than the soft, silky feeling of freshly-masked skin!!

This product is suitable for all skin types and promises "smooth youthful-looking skin". According to the MyPure website, it is packed with multi-fruit Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA's) and willow bark Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA's) which help to enhance skin renewal and remove dead skin cells, thereby improving your skin tone and reducing the appearance of imperfections and pores. The product also contains a blend of rosehip, pomegranate and vitamin B3 to deliver a radiant, even-looking complexion. This masque is "perfect as a pick-me-up before a special occasion or as part of your weekly beauty regime".

I slathered on this bad boy, as I would with any face mask, but the first thing I noticed was the more than iffy smell, a side effect I wasn't expecting. My brother literally recoiled at the scent! My mother was more forgiving, labelling it a "mature fragrance" but admitted it wouldn't be her cup of tea.

However, for the sake of being thorough, I soldiered on...

And boy am I glad I did!! The masque applies easily, and though it dries somewhat over the 10 minutes, it is not uncomfortable in the slightest. It is a dream to wash off, coming away instantly without leaving any nasty residue.

I was thoroughly pleased with the results too - my skin feels perfectly clean, blemish free and oh so soft!! Though the smell isn't wonderful, I will definitely cope, especially with these results :)

Review: Alva Coleur Baked Foundation Powder

The second product I tested out this month was the Alva Coleur Baked Powder, which you can check out on the MyPure website. The foundation is described as having a "silky light-as-a-breeze texture... with a matt finish and subtle colour at the same time"

The foundation only has two colour choices, light and medium, so it wouldn't be great for anyone with darker skin. However, I'm as pale a person as you'll ever meet, so I selected the light option, hoping it would work for me.

I tried this product two ways... firstly, I tried to wear this as a powder foundation, applying it directly after my concealor (I tried to apply it this way twice - once with the sponge provided and once with a kabuki brush) but it didn't really work out. It provided very little coverage and I was quite disappointed with the results overall.

However, I then decided to try it after applying my liquid foundation, as a setting powder, and I was much happier with the outcome - it blended my makeup really well (my mum commented that it looked like I was wearing no makeup at all) and gave a pretty finish, with a subtle shimmer.

I don't know if I will repurchase this powder - it retails at £16.60 and for that price I would expect a bit more from the product.

Review: A'kin Pure Emergency Gel

My first MyPure review this month is of the Pure Emergency Gel by A'Kin.

This product has three main uses:

1. A cooling gel to soothe and calm irritated skin

As someone who suffers from irrational skin that is often flushed and blotchy, this product is a Godsend. Applying this gel to irritated skin calms the inflamed red colour and the uncomfortably hot feeling - it provides immediate and lasting relief.

2. A moisturiser (for sensitive or oily skin)

I have oily skin and I find this product great in the morning. I apply it, wait for about 5 minutes and my skin is much less oily than normal!

3. An after shave/waxing balm

I used this after dry shaving (awful, I know, but our water was turned off) and it reduced the red, irritated appearance of my legs - the red bumps literally disappeared!

This product claims to be "unscented" - though this is not strictly true, the light fragrance of chamomile mixed with aloe is relaxing, and adds to the charm of this product.

My quest for perfect tresses has pressed me to purchase many a whimsical product in the past, but when I saw this in Boots, I just couldn't say no...

"Naked is a range of beauty products crammed with gorgeous high quality botanical extracts and made from at least 97% plant and mineral derived ingredients".

I picked up the formula for normal to dry hair.... but I want to try the limp hair version too. It is made with honey and mallow and smells divine.

The blurb below says: "the hair cuticle needs to be moisturised so we use honey and mallow extracts to target areas of dryness, quenching hair and helping to keep it hydrated. Because your hair deserves the kindest treatment of all, we don't use harsh detergents - only gentle, plant-based cleansing ingredients, to give that extra special Swish Factor, so you shine like a diamond in the rough"

The instructions are the same as almost every shampoo, but in case you're interested: "apply to thoroughly wet hair for a feather soft lather. Rinse really well and repeat if necessary - you will achieve a better foam second time around". I never repeat when washing my hair.... it often leads to a lot of product build-up in my thin hair, and I feel that it is a bit of a ploy by manufacturers to get you to use more and (hopefully) buy more! However, I will happily try this out twice for the sake of being thorough :)

Oh, and they don't test on animals either!

I will update this within the next week or so with my opinion and a review... hopefully a positive one :)

Today, my wonderful mother and I went for a stroll around the shops and spotted some beautiful things.... and she generously decided to purchase these gorgeous items for me, as an early Christmas present!

The first item is a gorgeous black and gold dress is by Kimchi Blue and retails at €50. It is incredibly beautiful and really comfortable to wear.... it is a bit on the short side, so I will be able to pair it with jeans or heels during the day or rock some tan and heels for the night time! There is only one downside... the dress is 100% polyester and so it is a bit delicate and hand wash only :(

The second item is a beautiful, military-style, grey cardigan by Silence and Noise. It is so cosy and comfortable... but looks really stylish!! I am planning to wear this with a simple white t-shirt, jeans and boots, but it would also look great over a little floral dress, when the weather heats up a bit!! It retails for €56.

I am so happy with both of my purchases... I love, love, love them!! I have the most generous mummy :)

Review: Alva Rhassoul Volcanic Mineral Clay

With college worries stressing me (and my skin) out of late, I have been searching high and low for the perfect skincare product to rid me of my (visible) woes. It is for this reason that I decided to test our Alva's Rhassoul Mineral Clay.

Alva Rhassoul is a skincare range created to "cleanse problem skin". The selected ingredients are specifically aimed at blemished or combination skin, that gets oily very quickly. The MyPure website lists the following benefits of Alva Rhassoul Mineral Clay:

♥ Skin Appearance Improves

♥ Spots and Blackheads Disappear

♥ Skin Elasticity Increases

♥ Deep Pore Cleansing

♥ Effective Cleansing

It also states that this product "delivers valuable minerals into the skin whilst eliminating dirt, toxins and infection causing bacteria. It is perfect for those who want to make their own deep cleansing skincare products". This product is well suited to people with sensitive skin and allergies, but works very well on oily, acne-prone skin.

Directions for Use

1. Add 3-4 tablespoons of warm water to a bowl.

2. Add powder to the water, stirring slowly until a gel/paste is formed

3. Add essential oils (optional)

4. Apply to the skin with fingers

5. Leave for a few minutes and wash off with warm water.

Having used this product several times, I noticed that my skin felt much more soft and supple. I also felt squeaky clean and super moisturised, without being greasy/oily. However, the process was pretty messy and the product doesn't look or smell that great - it's not an unpleasant scent, just a bit strange. I didn't use essential oils in mine, but I would advise trying that out... it might make the scent a little more pleasant.

Personally, I found that the clay mask was tough to wash off and after two uses, I resorted to applying this product pre-shower so that I could scrub it off properly, without making too much mess. I noticed that my skin felt a bit flushed after using it, but that could have been as a result of the excessive scrubbing and showering.

Overall, I liked the results that this product provided, but there are tonnes of face masks out there that smell better and are easier to use and wash off.

Review: Lovea Detangling Leave-In Conditioner

This month, the lovely lads and lassies at MyPure gave us bloggers a wonderful opportunity - to select our own products to review for you to peruse and, perhaps, purchase. This was utterly enjoyable, but I found myself eagerly scouring the website, wanting to try almost everything.

Having tried multiple Lovea products already, and having yet to be disappointed by them, I decided that I would start my quest there. The first product that I simply HAD to try was their Detangling Leave-In Conditioner.

I am an obsessive hair straightener - when I add up the damage my poor hair has received from blowdrying, straightening, curling, dying and back-combing, I'm surprised that I'm not bald... yet. I fry my once-luscious locks almost every day, leaving them dry, damaged and depressed.

Enter conditioner.

Conditioner, especially leave-in conditioner, nurses harmed hair back to health, providing shine and silky texture, without making you feel greasy. Leave-in conditioner can also help protect your hair from all your vicious styling tools - however, you should still use a heat protector, just in case.

As with all Lovea products, the directions are in French, but I can put my French skills to good use and give you a quick synopsis:

"This Leave-In Conditioner, enriched with organic Argan Oil from Morocco, detangles and restores brilliance to dull, lifeless hair. The spray is light, non-greasy and will not weigh your hair down. It can be used every day, on wet or dry hair. Directions for Use: Spray all over the hair, either when wet or dry, then comb"

The first thing you will notice about this product is the incredible scent, which reminds me of summer holidays at the seaside. I used this product almost every day for two weeks, both on wet and dry hair:

Wet Hair

I applied this to towel-dried hair and combed it through. I noticed that my hair felt much softer than usual and was virtually tangle free, which is a rarity.

Dry Hair

I applied this once or twice to dry hair, and though I was not floored by the results, I have to admit that it added some extra shine to my hair (and made it smell divine!!)

I am now a proud owner of Urban Decay's Naked Palette.

I am a huge fan of neutral eyeshadows - I think they are perfect for both daytime and nighttime. They can be worn alone, mixed and matched or worked into a smokey look.

The palette contains 12 eyeshadows - Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep and Gunmetal. It also comes with a dual ended eye liner with Whiskey and Zero.

Review: Inika Mineral Foundation Powder

The third product that I received from MyPure this month was an Inika Mineral Foundation Powder, which came in an adorable little gold pouch, with the cutest little kabuki brush.

As I had never heard of the Inika brand before, I curiously looked up their website and discovered that Inika is an Australian cosmetics brand, that operates under the belief that women should always know exactly what they're putting on their skin.

Inika is a 100% natural (and 100% cruelty free) cosmetics brand. All of their products are free from harmful chemicals that could damage the skin. Their products are "non-comedogenic" (ie: they won't clog up your pores) and are suitable for all women, even those with serious allergies and sensitivities to cosmetics.

The MyPure website claimed that the mineral foundation powder would provide a "natural, radiant look" so I excitedly opened the jar!

BAD IDEA!!

... having never used mineral foundation before, I was not expecting the mini cloud of foundation that poured out! Thankfully, I have wooden floors in my bedroom so the mess was easily taken care of!!

Following that little disaster, I decided to read up about the product and, thankfully, their are detailed instructions on the MyPure website:

Dip the kabuki brush into the foundation and work it into the bristles, ensuring that the brush is evenly coated. Tap the brush handle on a hard surface to embed the foundation (and the minerals). Apply in light, downward strokes all over the face. For heavier coverage: use a circular buffing motion.

I opted for the heavier coverage method, and was delighted with the results. The product did give me a (somewhat radiant) glow and lasted all day!! I did notice a little caking in some places after the first few uses, but after I got used to the product, that stopped happening!

I really enjoyed this product, but at a steep €30 per container, I won't be splurging on it too often. For a very special occasion, it might be worth it though. If you want to know more about this, or to purchase this product, please check out the MyPure website.

Review: Lovea Tahitian Monoi Moisturising and Restorative Hair Mask

Having previously tried out two other Lovea Bio products for MyPure, I was unbelievably excited when I opened my parcel this month and spotted a tub of their Tahitian Monoi Moisturising and Restorative Hair Mask. The other Lovea products I have tried (which I reviewed here and here) were absolutely brilliant, and I had very high expectations for this product...

... and it didn't disappoint!

Having dyed, fried (*with my ghd) and blow-dried my hair countless times over the past few years, to say it is "a bit dry and damaged" is a serious understatement. I always relish the opportunity to deep condition and restore some vitality and moisture to my poor barnet. This product is aimed at ladies with less than luscious locks that are in need of a good sorting out.

The tub, like all Lovea products, is in French... but it basically says "The Lovea Bio moisturising and restorative hair mask can repair your dry or damaged hair, after exposure to sun or sea, or to counter the effects of chlorine. Enriched with Tahitian Monoi, this creamy mask restores your hairs fibre, and leaves it soft, shiny and dazzlingly beautiful, without weighing it down."

According to the MyPure website, this product can be used in two ways. Firstly, as a deep conditioning mask. The directions are as follows: "apply to your hair and leave for up to 30 minutes. For best results wrap a towel around your hair".

The second way that this product can be used is as a leave-in conditioner, as follows: "take a small amount of the product and rub vigorously between your palms, then finger through towel dry hair".

I used this product both ways, applying it all over my hair each time (but mainly focusing on the damaged ends of my hair). After using this product, my hair felt luxuriously soft and silky. My mum even commented that my hair looked "much healthier and softer" and it felt much less brittle.

The consistency of the product is perfect - it's neither too runny nor too gloopy - and the scent is heavenly, like both of the other Lovea products I have tried. This price is a cheap and cheerful £7.99, and with the small amount required for each use, it goes a long way.

If you haven't checked out any Lovea products yet, you're missing out... big time! I am truly in love with this brand!!

Haul: TK Maxx

A brand spanking new TK Maxx opened up in my town yesterday, so this morning I decided to mosey down to have a little look... and boy, was I impressed!

The first thing I picked up was this black and gold Suzy Smith clutch bag. This will look gorgeous with a black dress, or with jeans and a plain top, for a night out. This beauty only set me back €22.99. Check out the Suzy Smith website for other pretty purses.

The next thing is easily my favourite purchase - this gorgeous dark silver and ruby red Moschino scarf. Yep, you read that right.... MOSCHINO!! This was €39.99 - a total bargain, in my opinion, as this is an "investment piece". You can pick up similar scarves on either the Moschino website or at Net-a-Porter.

The last thing I picked up was this edgy cardigan, by Amy's Paris. It was a bargaintastic €22.99. This cardi is really comfy to wear, and the detailing on the shoulders and sleeves is gorgeous. I cannot wait to wear this :)

I didn't realise, until today, just how wonderful TK Maxx is - I shall definitely be returning to pick up some more gorgeous bits and bobs

Lippie Love #2 - Shy Girl

For the second installment of my Lippie Love series, I want to introduce you to Shy Girl from Mac.

This is another beautiful cremesheen lipstick, with an incredibly moisturising, smooth texture. The neutral peach colour looks very bright but, when applied, it gives a gorgeous "nude lip" look without making you look washed out and sick - perfect for pale skinned beauties!

I mainly wear this during the day, but it can be dressed up for a night out by pairing it with a smokey eyed look.

Review: Living Nature Balancing Shampoo & Conditioner

I know there were some complaints that these monthly MyPure reviews were repetitive, with all 50 bloggers reviewing the same products.... so this month, the products I will be reviewing are tailored to my skin and hair types!

First up, is a brand from New Zealand called Living Nature. I was sent bottles of their Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner by the lovely folk at MyPure, following this description:
"my hair is quite dry and damaged but it has a tendency to become greasy very quickly"

I was so sure I would love these products...

I was unpleasantly surprised when I opened the shampoo bottle. Theoverpowering scent was almost nauseating. I normally love heavilyscented products, but I just found it a little too much! However, forthe sake of a thorough review, I soldiered on. I applied a generousamount to my hair and was disappointed to notice that it didn't lather.I love lathering up my shampoo - without the foam and bubbles, I justdon't feel that my hair is clean!!

I then reached forthe conditioner. According to the bottle, it contains active manukahoney. I absolutely LOVE honey scented products so I excitedly openedthe bottle..... sadly, it did not smell like manuka honey, in any way.It was a similar sickly scent to the shampoo, and I almost couldn't stomach it!

Asmy hair tends to get greasy very quickly, I never apply conditioner to my roots... and it's a good job I didn't! Directly after my shower, Iblow dried and straightened my hair, as usual. However, I noticed thatthe ends of my hair were quite dry, and the roots were disgustinglygreasy!! I had no time to rewash my hair, as I had to dash out the doorto a lecture, and I was less than impressed with my greasy mop.

The bottles say that these products are suitable "for all hairtypes" - I disagree. These products did not suit me, in the slightest.I forced myself to use them once more, after this experience, and I hadthe exact same results.

30 Day Tag - Day 30

Day 30 - Whatever takes your fancy

I stumbled across this tag on the gorgeous Jo's blog and thought it would be a fun way to finish out the past 30 days.

1. What is your beauty style? (Natural, trendy, etc.)

My day-to-day style is usually quite laid back and natural - I rarely wear eyeshadow or lipstick during the day, sticking to natural makeup and (somewhat) flawless skin... with lashings of mascara.

2. Where do you get your beauty inspiration from?

Most of my inspiration comes from the beautiful ladies I blogged about on Day 18 of this tag and from my favourite bloggers and youtubers. However, I also take inspiration from the "hippie" era of the 1960s - I love boho chic.

3. What beauty products do you have the most of?

On sheer quantity alone, I would have to say eyeshadow but I definitely buy more mascara than anything because I absolutely tear through it, piling it on every day!!

4. What's you favourite/holy grail colour for:

Eyes

I tend to prefer neutral shades on my eyes, venturing into dark browns and golds for a night out. I absolutely love MAC's Satin Taupe and Shroom!

Lips

I normally stick with skin toned colours, like MAC's Creme de Nude, for day to day wearing. For nights out, however, I usually go brighter, with colours like MAC's Creme Cup or Jazzed. I almost always go with Cremesheen lipsticks!

Cheeks

I always tend to stick with pink colours, very occassionally venturing towards a coral colour - I love Benefit's Coralista blush and use it all the time!!

Nails

I normally have clear nail polish on (I use nail strengthening polish between colours!!) but I don't have any particular "favourite" colour - I have a bit of everything in my collection. My favourite brands are Gosh, OPI, Topshop and Sephora.

5. Three favourite brands of the moment
These rarely change - I am pretty consistent in the makeup I buy, with my favourite brands almost alwas being Benefit, MAC and Topshop. I love Benefit for their foundations (I always wear the Play Sticks foundation in Spin the Bottle) and powder boxes. MAC have amazing eyeshadows and lipsticks, and their Studio Fix powder leaves your skin looking flawless. Topshop have incredibly good nail polish and mascara, and their products are pretty reasonably priced too!

30 Day Tag - Day 29

Day 29 - Hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days

I'm not the best at having plans for the future - I often tend to let things happen, but I have a select few goals for the coming year:

1. I hope to complete my masters degree with flying colours - I plan on studying my butt off to make this one happen.
2. I want to buy myself a car. Personally, I think that buying a car for myself would be a great accomplishment!
3. I would also like to lose weight (who doesn't) and become more healthy, in general.
4. I want to try and be single for the next year - I haven't been single since I was 18 years old, and I really want to enjoy my last year in college!
5. I want to take up yoga!! Weird, but true :)

I don't have very many hopes and dreams... but I think it's always good to live in the moment and enjoy life!! I can't believe this is my second last post of this tag - it has been an incredibly fun 30 days and I hope you've enjoyed reading these as much as I've enjoyed writing them!

30 Day Tag - Day 28

Day 28 - This year, in great detail

If I was to speak about the past year in great detail, this post would take about a year to read.... so I'll try and be brief!

September: I started my final year (of a four year degree) in college - I remember being a bit scared, because I had just spent a year, on erasmus, in France doing absolutely no study!!!

October: I had decided over the summer that I really wanted to specialise in accounting, with a view to qualifying as an accountant one day, so in October I did lots of interviews with accounting firms. I was incredibly lucky and received an offer from my first choice company, KPMG. They are paying for my masters degree this year, and I will start working for them in September 2011.

November: My little brother turned 18 - I was a bit distraught, because he's an adult now and not my little brother anymore :(

December: I had the first half of my finals... and my parents bought me a beautiful iphone to congratulate me on my results! I don't think I have ever loved a piece of technology more (except for, maybe, my beautiful white macbook)

January: I celebrated my 22nd birthday! 22 is an awful age though - it's the first year that people stop giving you presents!! And, I only got three cards...

February: I celebrated my three year anniversary with my boyfriend - he bought me the biggest teddy bear I've ever seen!!

March: Several of my friends from Erasmus came to visit me in Dublin for Paddy's Day - we had the most incredible time, visiting the Guinness Storehouse and the Jameson Factory.... as well as all the other, non-alcohol-related, places :)

April: I spent this entire month studying and having no social life whatsoever... good times!

May: I did the second half of my finals and managed to get a job for the summer, with a finance company, working on loan valuations. This was a very productive month :P

June: After three and a half years, me and my boyfriend decided to call it a day - it was a mutual decision, and it was for the best! We still get on, and will be friends one day, but we knew it was time to do it. A few tears were shed, but I felt almost relieved the next day, like a weight had been lifted!

July: I got my results from college and found out I got the 2.1 degree that KPMG required of me. I couldn't believe it - delighted just doesn't cover the sheer joy that washed over me!!

August: I worked, a lot - 50 hour weeks were starting to take their toll on me!! When I wasn't working, I was sleeping :P

September: I graduated from college and started my postgraduate masters!! The fun times just keep on coming :)

30 Day Tag - Day 27

Day 27 - This month, in great detail

This month has been hectic, to say the least - I will give you a run down of the different things I've been doing! I finished up at work, and had a little leaving do - as I'm starting back at college, full time, I won't be able to "commit myself" to a job... even though, I will miss the money awfully, I've much more free time now!

I graduated, finally, with a 2.1 degree in Commerce International with French - I have never seen my parents more proud of me than on that day!!!

I moved out of my parent's house - I've been living away from home for the past four years, but always move home for the summer (when college is over)... I'm back in college now doing my Masters, so I've moved back up to Dublin. I'm living with five strangers, on campus - Bryce (Canadian), Julia (German), Niamh and Louise (Irish) and another boy, who I haven't met yet.... I'm so happy with all of them at the moment - they're all so much fun, and really friendly :)

I started college last Monday (6th September) - I'm doing a Masters in Accounting, so I'll be studying financial and management accounting, as well as law, taxation, ethics and financial reporting. If this past week is anything to go by, I'm gonna be busy!!!

30 Day Tag - Day 26

Day 26 - Your week, in great detail

I'm going to use the phrase "in great detail" pretty loosely and give you a brief overview of my week - it wasn't very interesting!!

On Monday I moved into my new apartment in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. I also met all my lovely new flatmates... and I did some shopping as Monday was my last payday for a year!!!!! I bought another Yankee candle (I got the cherry scented one this time)

On Tuesday I had lectures from 9am to 5.30pm.... stressful stuff! After college we all went to the pub though - Ireland were playing (we beat Andorra 3-1... woo) and we had some dinner and drinks.

On Wednesday I had ANOTHER full day of lectures, and we were given a lot of home assignments which I spent the entire evening doing.... I didn't get to bed until 1am! Madness :(

Thursday was another day of lectures, but we went out for a yummy lunch half way though, and got out at 4pm - result! We had a party in my apartment (wine was flowing) and then moved to a club - got to bed at 3am!

Friday (today) was taxing - I had to get up at 8am for college, and I was feeling a tad fragile all day!! I did meet my friends for dinner though, at our favourite Thai restaurant - I had chicken satay with peanut sauce to start, and then a yummy green curry with prawns!! Delish :)

This weekend will be spent studying and completing assignments - very exciting altogether!

Only 4 days to go - yahoo :)

I wish I could write something remotely interesting here...... but I spent the ENTIRE day in class!! I am studying for a Masters in Accounting at the moment and have a hectic schedule - this week is especially awful.

Aside from learning my debits and credits, I made some yummy Spanish soup for dinner and I'm having a lovely class of French Merlot now - I'm going out with my friends tonight, so we're starting the party early!!

Day 21 - A recipe

I am not ashamed to say that I make a truly delicious spaghetti bolognese... here's how I do it:

Ingredients (Serves 4)
450g x minced meat
1/2 large onion (white or red)
6 x button mushrooms
250ml x kidney beans
1 x red pepper
2 x pinch of cumin
1 x Dolmio bolognese sauce
1 x squirt of ketchup!!
as much as you want of either pasta, spaghetti, rice or potatoes

Method
Step 1
Heat a frying pan with a little bit of oil (not too hot) and put on whatever carb you are using to boil (I use either pasta, spaghetti, rice or potatoes)
Step 2
Add the mince to the frying pan, and cook until brown all over
Step 3
Wash and chop your veggies - you can really add any vegetables that you want, I tend to mix it up a fair bit

Step 4
Add a generous pinch of cumin to the frying minced meat (add this at any point during the browning, it doesn't matter when...)

Step 5
Add the "hard" veggies to the mince, once it is brown... I add the onions and kidney beans at the point

Step 6
Cooking time will vary, depending on how crunchy you like your veggies to be - I like mine quite crunchy so I only leave it frying for about 3-4 minutes
Step 7
Add the other veggies to the pan (mushrooms, peppers etc) and simmer for a further 5 minutes.
Step 8
Add the dolmio sauce, a squirt of tomato ketchup (trust me on this one!!) and another pinch of cumin.

Step 9
Serve... and enjoy!

Lippie Love #1 - Jazzed

First off, I have to admit, I stole this idea from the beautiful Annabella - but it is such a wonderful idea for a series, that I couldn't help myself!! The first lipstick that I want to showcase for you all is Jazzed from Mac's "Into The Groove" collection.

I absolutely love the beautiful coral colour of this lipstick and it's a cremesheen, making it super moisturising and kind to your lips. I normally wear this on a night out, but it can be toned down a bit for the day time too.

Anyone reading this will presumably be aware that my main hobby is, in fact, blogging (surprise surprise) so, today I would like to show you all where my blogging takes place...

Please excuse the battered desk... my brother massacred it last year (while studying for his exams) and I'm hoping to re-paint it very soon.

This is where I store most of my makeup, with the brushes in the brush holder on top... though, they're not there at the moment because I'm deep cleaning them today!!

On the bottom left of this photo are my makeup pallets stored in a turquoise letter holder from Urban Outfitters and on the bottom right is a floral bucket containing some hand creams that I use every day, as well as several products that I have to review

I popped into Superdrug when I was in London and was immediately drawn to the NYC counter. I loved all the pretty colours but decided to allow myself to get one polish only because I was worried it would be taken off me at the airport. Anyways, I selected Uptown (# 242B) which is a beautiful pink colour that I wear almost every weekend!!

This colour is absolutely beautiful... but it is a little warmer in real life than in these photos - flash ruins everything!! These photos were taken after two coats, but I normally only wear one coat. I find that this polish lasts for a few days without chipping, with no top coat, it goes on easily and evenly, and it dries really quickly. Love it!

ps: please excuse how disgraceful the skin around my nails looks - my hands got totally wrecked at work, but I'm getting a manicure tomorrow!!

Day 14 - A non-fictional book

"Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl" was my favourite non-fictional book growing up. Last winter I visited Amsterdam with my friends, and we paid a visit to Anne Frank's "house" where her family hid for years - it was incredibly interesting, but also terribly sad. If you haven't read this book, I seriously recommend it.

Review: Grease Lightning Spot Treatment

In my strive for perfect skin (for graduation) I have been trying out Lush's Grease Lightning Tea Tree Spot Treatment

Made from natural ingredients, this product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans (and those with sensitive skin) - it was recommended for me based on this description of my skin: "Combination-Oily skin, with a tendency to get several small spots on my chin and sometimes on my nose"

Two pumps of this would provide you with plenty of product to coat a full face of flaws. One pump is perfectly sufficient to deal with a problematic t-zone like mine. The product is a gel-like consistency and smells yummily of tea tree.

As for its affectivity, one blob of gel on a problem area and the redness dissipates almost immediately, leaving a minor blemish that heals over night.

Warning: be careful when pumping, you don't want to waste this product and it shoots out of the bottle very quickly.

Day 4 - Your favourite book

Although I love the Southern Vampire Mysteries (True Blood) and the Twilight Saga (I love vampires, sorry), my favourite books were always the Harry Potter books - I queued at my local bookstore at midnight for the release of each book (apart for the last one, because I was on holidays... but my mum took my place!!)

Another tough question!! This changes all the time as new movies come out, but at the moment I have three favourites:

1. The A-Team

Growing up with a brother that took charge of the remote control meant that I watched a lot of "Boy TV" and the A-Team was easily my favourite TV show... I can't explain how excited I was when I heard that this movie was being made and how much I enjoyed it. This is a must-see and not just for the boys :)

2. The Boat That Rocked

I bloomin' loved this movie - the plot, the costumes, the music... everything was perfect. I wish I could have lived in the 60s!!

3. Get Him To The Greek
Funniest movie of 2010, easily.... I just love me some Russel :)

Project 10 Pan - An Update

Since beginning Project 10 Pan, I haven't spent a single cent on makeup, and I couldn't be more proud! I didn't think I'd manage this challenge but, surprisingly, I've nearly finished it... here are the products I've managed to use up.

I'm so close to finishing this... all 10 products have officially "hit pan" (or completely run out, in the case of the Batiste). I almost enjoyed this experience - it wasn't nearly as painful as I had imagined, and I will honestly be doing it again (at least once).

Happy Weekend Flowers!!

I have a little NOTD post for you all, featuring Gosh's Miss Minty... this is my newest nail polish splurge, and I picked it up in A-Wear for around €8.

(Please excuse the slightly smudged edges on my nails... I painted them and then got distracted - I had to do some damage control before snapping these photos!)

I absolutely love Gosh nail polishes - the texture is perfect, they can work with one coat (two is better though) and they dry so quickly....... and they're not uber-expensive!

I have a few more Gosh polishes which will be featuring on here in the coming weeks... I have a new addiction!!

Domino: The Book of Decorating

I am a massive interior design dork. As long as I can remember, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching DIY and Home Design shows, like Grand Designs and 60 Minute Makeover. As a child, I used to get up early to watch them during the summer... I don't go THAT far now, but I certainly catch up online!

In the future, I plan to take some interior design courses and design my own home, completely from scratch. This has been a long standing dream of mine, and I routinely pick up bits and pieces that I think will be useful... Today, I hit the jackpot.

I was trudging to the bus stop after work today, in the pouring rain, and happened to pass by Urban Outfitters. Instead of waiting in the wet for 20 minutes, I decided to have a snoop inside. Urban Outfitters is one of my favourite shops. Their pieces are all so eclectic and charming (I especially love their necklaces, which are casually adorned with birds, watches and roses... perfection!!)

I was happily musing over certain purchases (not wanting to spent more than the €30 clutched in my fist) when I spotted this...

Domino: The Book of Decorating

The book contains pages and pages of beautifully photos of impeccably designed rooms. From entryways to bedrooms, it covers everything in astonishing detail.

Almost every photo in the book comes with an explanation (either little or large), detailing what pieces of furniture and dressing were used in the creation of the room, and why they all seem to "work". The book also provides you with a handy guide on how to create accurate floor plans, which map out all the decorating options you have and give you a wonderful sense of how the finished room will look.

This book is a must read for any aspiring designers out there... or for anyone who is redecorating!! You can pick it up on Amazon or drop into Urban Outfitters and see it for yourself. I bet you will love it ♥♥

Haul: Illamasqua Kabuki Brush

I fell through the door this evening, sopping wet and weary, after a long day in the office. I was sure that nothing but a hot shower and an early bedtime could cure my misery, until I spotted a precious little box on the table... my ASOS order had arrived 2 days early!!

This was my first ASOS order, so I was extra excited and gleefully ripped open the box to reveal my BEAUTIFUL purchase!! Thanks to the bad influences of Jennifer and Kelly, I splurged €30 on the Illamasqua Kabuki Brush...

This gigantically large body brush is perfect for applying face powder, blotting powder and bronzer... and it will (hopefully) cut down on application time in the morning (more sleep = happier me)

It is, without doubt, the softest thing I have EVER felt. I have fallen head over heels for it, and I have owned it for about 45 seconds... oooops!!

If you are quick enough, you can snap this baby up in the ASOS sale, it's currently €30/£22 (roughly) and it normally retails for £35.... bargain!!

I cannot big this brush up enough - it is, literally, perfect!!

Review: You've Been Mangoed Bath Melt

Good morning flowers - I hope that you all had a splendid weekend and that Monday morning isn't being too hard on you!! Last night I decided to treat myself to a long soak before throwing myself into a busy week at work. I grabbed my favourite luxury bath melt from Lush - the delicious "You've Been Mangoed" - and the book I'm reading, and off I popped.

The Lush website describes this baby as "bright and breezy, with nutritious mango and avocado butters to make your skin feel as if it's just had a really healthy breakfast and is all set up for the day" (source)

PROS

This product is a favourite of mine for several reasons... firstly, the mango butter is super moisturising. I have dry skin on my body (and oily on my face... worst combination!!) and I always step out of the bath feeling soft and silky! Second of all, this product contains a generous amount of lemongrass oil, which tones your skin big time! It also (supposedly) leaves you in a good mood, due to the citrus scent (maybe that's just me... big citrus fan right here!!!). Lastly, it smells DIVINE... literally mouthwatering - one of my favourite Lush scents ever!!

CONS

The only downsides to this product are the lack of bubbles (they just make baths more fun... right?) and the semi-grey tint it gives to your bath water, which not exactly enticing!! However, f you can get over these (minor) issues, you will bloomin' love this luxurious, delicious bath melt.

Oversized Sunglasses

The marmite of eye-wear - you either love them or loathe them... either way, you notice them!! No one wore them better than this beautiful lady

These are my absolute favourite pair. I picked them up in Accessorise in Dublin Airport for around €20... totally worth it - they're really comfy and uber stylish!! Love them

Benefit Perfume

Project 10 Pan is well under way - saving lots of money and getting through all my unloved makeup products!! Anyways, I was browsing through Benefit yesterday (my friend wanted some new foundation and I convinced her to pick up a PlayStick, ooops) and I picked up FREE samples of their three new fragrances... Lookin' to Rock Rita, Garden of Good and Eva and So Hooked on Carmella.

Lookin' to Rock Rita

Benefit describe this fragrance as exhilarating and stylish, with top notes of coconut, lemon and freesia. This is my least favourite of the three scents, but it is still yummy!!

Garden of Good and Eva

This is my favourite of these new fragrances, with top notes of pear, watermelon, ozone accords and muguet. Benefit describe this fruity perfume as "fresh and crisp".

So Hooked on Carmella

This beautiful scent has top notes of lemon, grapefruit and rhubard. With a delicious bottom note of heavenly vanilla, this scent definitely is feminine and flirty.

I will definitely be using all three perfumes and possible picking up their full-sized sisters when I finish Project 10 Pan!!

Hello Friends!

This evening I made a decision: I have too much half used makeup - I have a tendency to get bored easily and move on to something new and shiny. Take foundation: I have 1 Clarins, 3 Clinique, 2 Maybelline, 1 Benefit and 2 Rimmel foundations on the go - that's 9 foundations... well 2 are for when I'm wearing fake tan, but that still leaves 7!! When on earth do I imagine needing this many foundations? Oh, and don't get me started on mascara! It's insane and I need to start using things up, or they'll go bad.

Enter Project 10 Pan.

The concept behind this little project was thought up my the lovely Laura (aka: Lollipop26). Basically it means that I'm not allowed purchase ANY makeup products until I use up 10 items that I currently own.

Leave a comment below if you have done this before or if you're doing this now, and let me know how you got on and what your products were! I think my first products will be my Benefit Play Stick foundation and my MAC Studio Fix powder - these will be the hardest things to go without, so it'll be good to get them out of the way first...

I will let you know when I hit my first pan!! Take care and I hope some of you decide to do this too...

1.Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice make-up or nice hair and no make-up?

I'm gonna have to say nice hair and no makeup - I have really fine, oily hair and I always feel a bit rubbish when it's messy, but I could go out with no makeup (occasionally, anyways)

2.Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?
I would rather shave my eyebrows, because they can easily be drawn back on with eyebrow pencil... having to use false lashes every day would be painful, time consuming and expensive!

3.Would you rather be forced to shop at only MAC or Sephora for the rest of your life?

I would definitely pick Sephora! There are two products that I use every single day, without fail: foundation and mascara. I detest MAC mascara, and their foundation doesn't really suit my colouring, so I could never envisage using those products every day for the rest of my life... I'd rather wear no makeup.

4.Would you rather wear lipgloss/lipliner look or 80's perm?

I'm gonna have to say lipliner - perms are a baaaaaaaad look, on everyone. Plus, perms are really bad for you and I have enough damage done to my hair with all the GHD use!

5.Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?

This one is simple... overdone blush any day. There is nothing (makeup related) that I hate more than foundation lines... BLEND PEOPLE!!!

6.Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or biker shorts in public?

Hmmm... I have to say MC Hammer pants because biker shorts are THE most unflattering clothing items in existence!

7.Would you rather have a bad orange-y spray tan or really weird tan lines that can't be covered?

I never get a tan (curse of white Irish skin) so I've never had weird tan lines but orange spray tan never looks good, so I'll have to pick the tan lines!!

8.Would you rather have a bad haircut or bad hair color?

Hands, down I would rather a bad hair colour. It's easier and quicker to fix - a bad haircut can take months to correct.

9.Would you rather have youtube or twitter taken away forever?

I love both but I'm gonna have to say twitter... I love youtube more.

10. Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?

I am a mascara nut, and would be lost without it so unfortunately the brushes will have to go!

Review: [A'kin] Jojoba & Lavender Conditioner

Hello ladies - this is my second (and final) MyPure review this month! I received another [A'kin] product - a conditioner, which combines "certified organic lavender flower extract combined with cold pressed Australian jojoba to provide light conditioning and natural lustre to fine or oily hair". You can read more about the product by clicking HERE.

I was really excited to try this product for two reasons: Firstly because I bloomin' loved the last [A'kin] product I reviewed. And secondly, because I have very fine and oily hair, so this product was perfect for me.

The directions on the bottle advise that you massage the product into your scalp. However, I refrained from applying it to the roots of my fine (naturally oily) hair, and concentrated on the ends, which are slightly damaged from styling. The consistency of the conditioner is creamy and light, and detangled my hair, leaving it easy to manage and style. My hair felt deliciously soft after I used it and it had a beautiful shine, without looking greasy (which is a BIG deal for me, and probably for most fine/oily haired ladies)

Scent

The lavender scent is incredibly relaxing and soothing (it would be the perfect accompaniment to a hot bath and a cup of tea)

Price/Size

This product can be bought on the MyPure website and costs £7.49 for a 225ml bottle. This is more than I would normally pay for a conditioner but it really is wonderful!!

MAC Rodarte Controversy

Potentially the worst makeup collection since time began will be hitting the shelves in September. This poorly thought out collection, a collaboration between MAC Cosmetics and Rodarte Fashion House, is based around the "the beauty of the landscape and the people" of the town of Juarez in Mexico.

As a business student, I am a firm believer in thoroughly researching important decisions before they are made, because decisions can often be irreversible. I normally start the research process with Google or Wikipedia, to get a basic understanding of the topic in question! I'm guessing MAC and Rodarte didn't bother researching this collection at all, or they would have noticed that typing "Juarez" into Google generates 10 suggestions, three of which are Juarez Murders, Juarez Violence and Juarez Mexico Murders.

*Alarm bells should be going off about now*

The Real Story of Juarez

Since 1993, the women of Juarez have been terrorised. They have been raped, mutilated and murdered. Their naked bodied have been dumped in the desert.

There are over 500 reported cases of "femicide", although recent reports claim that actual figures are as high as 5000 in the Juarez area alone. The majority of the victims were maquiladoras, who worked in local factories and sweatshops for peanuts, and the attacks usually occured at night, while they were walking to and from work. Perhaps the most devastating thing is the fact that most of the women were aged between 12 and 22.

Despite large scale media coverage, and actors such as Minnie Driver, Jennifer Lopez and Antonio Banderas all highlighting the ongoing issue in films such as "The Virgin of Juarez" and "Bordertown", these horrific crimes have gone, largely, unpunished... and they are still occuring. A local newspaper in Juarez, Norte, reported 37 murders in the first four days of 2010. (Source) This is an epidemic that needs to be stopped.

You are probably wondering HOW ON EARTH no one at MAC or Rodarte came across the tragic reality of Juarez during their extensive research.

Both companies have recently released statements, following media uproar over the collection.

We understand that product names in the M·A·C Rodarte collection have offended some of our consumers and fans. This was never our intent and we are very sorry. We are listening carefully to the comments posted and are grateful to those of you who have brought your concerns to the forefront of our attention. M·A·C will give a portion of the proceeds from the M·A·C Rodarte collection to help those in need in Juarez. We are diligently investigating the best way to do this. Please be assured that we will keep you posted on the details regarding our efforts.

Rodarte

Our makeup collaboration with M·A·C developed from inspirations on a road trip that we took in Texas last year, from El Paso to Marfa. The ethereal nature of this landscape influenced the creative development and desert palette of the collection. We are truly saddened about injustice in Juarez and it is a very important issue to us. The M·A·C collaboration was intended as a celebration of the beauty of the landscape and people in the areas that we traveled

Something is amis here... if the plight of the women of Juarez was a "very important issue" then I doubt they would have named their some of their products Factory, Ghost Town and Sleepwalker and I doubt they would have had promotional images featuring corpse-like models.

At least MAC apologised for this dreadful blunder. Rodarte have not shown any remorse.

If there was any justice in the business world, all the profits from this collection would be donated to helping these women and their families. I, for one, will not be purchasing anything from this collection. I will, instead, be donating the money, that I would have spent, to Amnesty International, who actively work to assist these women and other victims of abuse. I urge you to do the same!
